On the Path to a Culture of Sustainability

Commissioned by:

Science & Technology Policy Research and Information Center (STPI)

This project presents a five-volume publication series for Taiwan’s national energy initiative, integrating themes of humanity, technology, diversity, and sustainability. The visual identity centers on the concept of light as a source of energy and optimism. The logo combines translucent layers representing wind, water, light, and fire, forming a subtle smile that reflects connection and care.

Each book features a distinct color scheme and theme while maintaining a unified visual language of layered transparencies and fluid lines. Through branding, editorial design, and photography, the series conveys both the technical achievements and the cultural vision of a better, more sustainable Taiwan.

Book Cover Design

When four of the volumes are arranged together, the cover designs connect seamlessly to form a continuous, flowing composition. This visual integration symbolizes the unity of different sectors—human, technological, environmental, and cultural—in achieving Taiwan’s sustainable energy goals. The intersecting layers and gradients also evoke the concept of collaboration, where individual contributions merge to create a brighter collective future.

LOGO Design

The logo design takes inspiration from droplet-shaped color blocks, representing the four essential elements of energy: wind, water, light, and fire. These elements are layered with varying transparency to form the outline of a gentle smile, symbolizing optimism, social care, and the human dimension of sustainability. The vibrant yet soft palette—red and yellow, green and light blue—creates a bright and approachable identity, while the overlapping technique produces harmonious color transitions that reflect inclusivity and balance. This mark functions not only as a visual identifier but also as a conceptual emblem of energy transforming into human well-being.
